Sunrise on the Lake

One October morning I wanted to take a picture of Lake Julia at sunrise. I came quite early to make sure I do not miss the sunrise. For a long while I was just standing on the pier behind Nicolet Theatre (Rhinelander, Wisconsin), waiting. I was watching a morning mist rising above the lake.

Finally, the sun rays started hitting the sky, turning its color deep red. Eventually, the perfect moment came. I took the picture and went home.

While that was several years ago, I have recently (late July 2003) written a short piano piece called Sunrise on the Lake as a memory of that morning. If you want, you can listen to it. It is in midi format, so the quality of the sound depends on the quality of the sound equipment in your computer as well as the software you use to access it (personally, I find the quality better if I do not listen to it in the browser but save it to my disk and then listen to it). If you would like to play it for yourself, you can also download the score in the Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format (you may need to tell your viewer to rotate it counter-clockwise).
